I started my boy on baby signs at 4 months old, bought him tons of foam letters to play with and got him on YBCR at about 2 yrs. He's 3 now and reads on his own quite comfortably. (I'd says he a "Stage 2" reader, close to stage 3.) He received a Nook Color for Christmas loaded with books and reads with it every day. He advanced in spurts so be patient if it seems that nothing new is happening for a while, suddenly it will! We eventually passed our YBCR package on to his Day Care provider.
