Hello all. I am looking for a violin for my 2 year old daughter. I am not a musician myself but i really want her to start learning music from a young age and i love the violin. Does anyone have a used violin that their small child has outgrown and would not mind selling it? I prefer to go this way as it would take the guesswork out of finding the right size for my daughter. She is now 27 months. Thanks in advance.

The bow of the violin is a narrow, slightly incurved stick of Pernambuco about 75 cm long, with a band of horsehair stretched from end to end of the bowstick. check this out

you'll not use this method fairly often, however will apply it as a bowed stringed instrument extended technique that's excellent for music like his and plenty of different composers within the up to date era.

Hi, I just came across your article while googling. I am considering getting my preschoolers violins, but I don't know which brands are okay to order online. Do you have any insight on this?

Hello platypus. It really depends on the size of your child, and I can't tell you for sure for the same reason that I can't recommend a shoe size for your child. We got our 2 year old a 1/32. I would definitely stay away from the 1/2 sized. I got a 1/2 sized violin when I was 8 and it was too big for me. The way to tell if the violin is the right size is to put their chin on the chin rest and see if they can comfortably stretch their arm around the scroll. A local music store may have violins for sale where you can try out the different sizes. If the 1/8 violin is too big for your child, I would recommend buying a smaller one online or waiting until your child is older. It physically hurts to play an instrument that is too big for you. Good luck!

Hi,
I came across your blog when I started searching for violins for toddlers. My 2 1/2 year old picked up his toy guitar and a stick and started playing with it like a violin. So I think it could be fun to learn together.
I found a couple for sale, 1/8, 1/4 and 1/2 sizes. Which is good for a toddler?
